January 09 - Fullmetal Alchemist

.... You know, I can't actually remember how I found Fullmetal Alchemist now. It was either a new one Shi-chan had picked up, or I read about it when I was looking at what was new in the anime world.

I have not actually seen -Thinks- probably half the show for the first series. Not because I don't want to (I *love* Fullmetal Alchemist. ♥), but because it's been hard to get the chance. For two reasons: 1) I actually do have all of it - in downloads someone gave to me ages and ages ago, long enough that they're subtitled. I keep thinking I should watch them, but FMA is one of the few animes where I actually *prefer* the dub. And 2) Shi-chan owns ... all but the last two DVDs, I think. But she has a thing about not wanting me to watch her movies if she hasn't seen them yet. Which is fine, but she's had this series for years and *STILL* hasn't watched them yet. -Glares darkly-

As for why I haven't seen Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, there are again, two reasons: 1) I wanted to watch the original series first. I know that they're different at a lot of points, but I also know that a lot of people liked Brotherhood *much* better, and seeing as I *like* the first FMA, I want a chance to watch it all before Brotherhood changes my mind. And 2) I know it's on Netflix, but I only remember to use Netflix when I'm marathoning PR. And as Brother recently found out, they never put the ending up, so I'd rather wait until they do.

Despite not having seen as much of the show as I should have, I have a generalized understanding of its plot and characters from research and fanfiction, as well as what I have managed to see. I *LOVE* Ed and Al; they are my favorites. They need ALL THE HUGS. Winry amuses me, but when I actually watch her on the show, I find I like her less. Same with ... well, pretty much everyone but Ed and Al, really.

Pairings: I am a die-hard Roy/Ed fan. Why? Uh ... fanfic, really. The Roy/Ed stories were a lot more fun and interesting a read than Roy/Riza or Ed/Winry. There was more drama to the pairing, more energy and banter and sexual tension. I dunno, I guess they're just a more exciting pairing to me. Ed and Winry just seem ... expected, almost. Which makes them boring to me. And while Hawkeye is *AWESOME*, I feel like she holds herself back for Roy, which bothers me. (Especially in the Conqueror of Shambala movie. >.O) I don't have a preferred pairing for Hawkeye - or any of the others - but I do like Al/Winry for some reason.

CrackPairing: So, I play this RPG with Shi-chan. And in this RPG, we drag random characters from anime and TV and other things, and throw them all into the world we play. Which is how Dean Winchester/Winry Rockbelle became a Thing. And it's now one of my favoritest pairings, because I can so see it. I mean really, a guy who loves cars and hot chicks, and a hot chick who's a mechanic? It totally works! And when Dean's mouth gets ahead of him, Winry has a wrench handy because she does not put up with his bullshit. (Which Dean finds kind of hot, but will vehemently deny.)

At some point, someday, I will *FINALLY* find/force myself to find a way to watch all of FMA and FMA: Brotherhood. Because it's a fabulous show, and I love it. Because it has ALL THE ANGST and Brothers and NotMagic and awesomeness.

... I just have to get to the watching point first. ^.^;;

It seems easier to ramble for this meme when I'm tired. I should keep this in mind for future topics.

Stalking your journal and I totes forgot about this post too! (Sorries. *sheepish*)

I think you *should* watch the first FMA series before Brotherhood. I don't know if I could have done it the other way around. Brotherhood sets the bar way high, and while FMA is a great anime and story in and of itself, it doesn't stand as well by comparison. (Of course I'm more biased about this, but...well to put it shortly, things like the 7 sins of the homonculi actually make sense and aren't just randomly named...because Dante wanted to call them that? IDEK the actual reasoning there, but it was always something I wondered about until I watched Brotherhood.)

Also! They've brought FMA back to netflix! And all of Brotherhood is there now too!

I enjoyed all of your rambling, and also the RPG bit. That sounds *awesome*! *lotsa hugs* Thank you for talking about it for me. ♥

*facepalms* Or...not? I *thought* Netflix had all of Brotherhood now, cause they put up more than there were (it was only half the series), but it's all *but* the last 12 episodes. (Which is the best part! *whines*) But! They *do* have all of FMA on there. Just checked it to be sure since I was wrong on Brotherhood. ^_~
