Holidays, Movies, Therapy, and Life in General.
It's been a busy few couple of weeks around here. And Brother's factory had a shutdown for the past week (which they do every so many months for cleaning), so he's been hogging his computer to play Eve and leaving me without internets. -Makes a face at him-
Christmas wassomewhat surprisingly pleasant. I'm not much of a holiday person, but Brother's mom adores them, so there was a lot of celebration and family time. I had a lot more fun than I'd expected to.
Christmas morning consisted of everyone sitting around the living room, taking turns opening gifts with most of us still in our pjs. (Brother's little brother and sister-in-law just put on shoes and coats before driving over. ^.^) I had a lot more presents than I'd been expecting, but there were lots of good things! (Sadly, no Power Rangers. -Pouts-) I now have Final Fantasy X and its guide book, The Muppet Christmas Carol, Muppets from Space/The Muppets Take Manhattan, the first volume of Digimon 01, fuzzy socks, a pretty purple dragonfly pendant from my mom, and three Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon mangas from Brother. And LOTS of sugar. -Evil grin-
The funniest part was the coffee. See, Shi-chan had sent me a bag of caramel-flavored coffee (along with three Disney soundtracks and some pjs!) a few days before. Then Brother's mom got me a box of flavored coffee samples - and Brother's sister-in-law got me the same one, along with a hot chocolate gift set. So apparently everyone thinks I'm a coffee addict. -Snickers-
Doesn't help that when I wandered in that morning all zombie-like, Brother's mom commented that I sounded kind of snuffly. My only response was to groan "Coffee ... " while grabbing the French Press to make some. ^.^;;
Ironically, everyone gave me all this coffee, but no one thought to give me coffee CREAMER. x.x
From there we headed over to Brother's aunt and grandparents' house to spent the rest of the day with the family. His aunt made a point to stop and tell me exactly what dishes I could eat - which actually turned out to be half the meal. They even fried a couple of Boca Burgers just for me. (I adore her. ♥)
After dinner I showed her how to hook up her new Wii, while Brother took over to show her how to use the WiiFit he gave her. She and I played WiiBowling for while and cheered each other on, while Brother and his dad played each other at the pool table. ^_^ Then we all tried to teach his grandma how to play WiiBowling. She ended up having an easier time with WiiGolf, but she didn't give up until she got it! Then she went back upstairs to greet more guests while Brother and I played each other. Which means the games went from cheering each other on to cursing at each other and making comments about impotency. ^.^I love my Brother, I swear. There was also the fun moment of discovering a course that requires aiming for a cliff, and Brother took great joy in naming what countries his ball landed in whenever he overshot. ("Canada! Mexico!" "Narnia!")
Brother's aunt gave me a very pretty clock with ivy framwork, and a glass plate for burning tealights. ^_^ And his grandma gave me a soap set and an aloe vera plant!
All in all, it was definitely one of the best Christmases I've had in years. ♥
My best moment of getting present thought, would actually have to go to
weesta by sheer shock value and moment of awesome.
I was standing in the kitchen with Brother, his mom, little brother, and sister-in-law, and we were all talking when someone handed me a box that had come in the mail. I hadn't been expecting anything, so I absently opened it and read the card, which said "Happy wish list!". Clearly, I needed to know what that was supposed to mean, so I started to tear open the wrapping paper.
My eyes bugged out, I literally shrieked "She did *not*!" - scaring the crap out of everyone else - and gaped/squeed/flailed at my brand new, Seaquest DSV Season 2 boxset. (For anyone who wasn't aware, that's been on my wishlists for the past four years, so yes, the gaping/squee/flail really was literal.)
I spent the rest of the day randomly thinking OMG WEE! ♥ ♥ ♥
The day after Christmas I had another physical therapy appointment. I mentioned when I got there that my arm was a bit sore from playing with the Wii the day before. So we tried the usual: ultrasound, heating, and various exercises. By the end, my therapist asked me if I felt better or worse, and I honestly admitted that it hurt more. It usually does.
She decided that therapy isn't working, and canceled the rest of my appointments. Which it's really not: every time I go, I hurt more afterwards. Heck, the appointment before this we tried a new exercise, and I spent the next three days in bed with back spasms. x.x So, she did a last assessment, and promised she'd write a letter for my file. Once I can manage to kidnap Brother for a day, we're going to the clinic to have the doctor to take another look and decide what happens now. My shoulder's been sore in the meantime, but tolerable.
Brother's mom and I spent the rest of the day shopping after-Christmas sales, which was fun. I always enjoy spending time with her. ^_^ She even got me things! I finally have a decent sized coffee cup that says "Coffee and shoes take away the blues" (I don't care about shoes, but the coffee part is true), a box of cherry candy canes, and two pairs of earrings that look like poinsettias.
We planned on going to see The Hobbit that night, but after Brother and his dad drove to meet us, we found out they were completely sold out. x.x So we agreed to go the next morning instead.
It was loads of fun! I like Bilbo, although I feel for him when he's always getting picked on. I need a scorecard to keep track of all the Dwarves. x.x I was able to recognize the king, the old guy who was loyal to the king, and the pretty archer and his brother. That was about it. I also kept expecting the movie to end before it did, and was pleasantly surprised each time it kept going. I heard later that other people were annoyed by the length, but personally I bought the extended two-disk director's cut of each of The Lord the Rings movies, so.
All in all, I don't like it as much as I loved LOtR, but it's still a lot of fun!And I want the soundtrack. Specifically for The Song, because it's pretty and I keep whistling it while I'm in the shower. c.c;;;
We spent New Year's Eve at home with Brother's parents, younger brother and sister-in-law, and her little brother. Brother's brother forced usme to suffer through watching Dawn of the Dead while we snacked/ate dinner. I'm not a fan of zombie movies, and that one was particularly gory. >.< After that Brother put on Brave while he and I each snagged a couch and a DS and everyone else played Skip-Bo. (He played Pokemon: Red while I worked on Chocobo Tales, a game which is Cracktastically Adorable. ♥) We watched the ball drop, the kids went home, and he and I kept working on our games with the after-party musicians playing on TV while his mom did some research on her computer. It was a pretty peaceful night. ^_^
Other movies seen over the last week included:
Meet the Robinsons! I often forget how much I love this movie. ^_^ It was on my wishlist, but Brother picked up his own copy when we found it at Hastings.Jerk. He loved it as much as I'd thought he would, to the point that his parents came in to see what we were laughing so loud about. ^.^;;;
Rise of the Guardians! Shi-chan had seen this a couple of weeks ago, and said it was awesome and she wanted to buy it when I asked her about it. So I conned Brother into seeing it with me at the cheap theatre last night. It's adorable and magical. ♥ Jack needs SO MANY HUGS. The Easter Bunny and Santa Claus crack me up. It was nice seeing such different interpretations of what are normally standard characters. And the whole heart of the movie was just ... ♥ Definitely buying this one.
Although the best moment had to be afterward, when I was able to tell Brother (who hadn't noticed) that Captain Kirk was Jack Frost. ^_^
The Life of Pi! This one was playing at the same theatre as Rise of the Guardians, so Brother and I decided to go home to eat and then come back to catch the last showing. (Didn't hurt that it turned out to be $2 Tuesday, so they were even cheaper than expected. ^.^) This movie was a mind trip. o.O Not in a bad way; I actually liked it a lot. Pi is a character I can really identify with, particularly for his beliefs about religion. The graphics are fantastic, and the story is a good one. But there's a big twist at the ending. It changes how you perceive the whole movie, which for me would make it hard to watch again. But at the same time, this one really stuck with me, particularly for the comment the main character makes at the end about it all. I'm not going to buy it, but I'd recommend seeing it at least once.
Ironically the first of the last of my Christmas presents arrived today! Along with Brother's presentFINALLY. My mom sent me money with my card, so I used it to buy Prilosec and groceries to make my favoritest sandwich ever (hummus, guacamole, cheese, cucumber, tomato, lettuce, alfalfa cprouts, and mayo on toast ♥), and then ordered things from Amazon that I've been wanting. Today I got my soundtracks to all three Transformers movies. (Because they are AWESOME.) ^_^ Still waiting for my own copy of Meet the Robinsons and the fourth season of Case Closed, because I want to see more Kaito. And possibly get more ideas for Mine.
Resolutions for the new year? Meh, not really. Possibly to continue my Word Count Goal of 1,000,000 words in a year. I made 56959 for 2012, which is ... incredibly pathetic. -_-;;; Getting my arm fixed so I can work again? Writing?
Really, I suppose I just resolve to hope for the the same things I wished
rosabelle when she texted me Happy New Year. The same things I wish to all of you.
May it be filled with writing, love, and happiness. ♥
