Topics Meme: Days 14 and 17
I am a terrible, terrible person who keeps ignoring her meme.
In my defense, the weekend before last involved a thirty-three and a half hour roadtrip from Idaho to Texas, which I did two-thirds of the driving for. I've spent the last week alternatively spending time with Shi-chan, and trying to recover from the journey. (Apparently all that time driving made my body decide to redevelop those oh-so-fun arthritic/possible gluten intolerance/big ass lumps on my hands, knees, and ankles again. I am extremely Not Happy. >.<++) I'm mostly fine; just stiff and tired and a bit cranky. There has been lots of gaming to help me recover.
Anyway, onward!
To be honest, I haven't put much thought into Mirinoi family structure. ^.^;;
When I started Domestication, it was purely for the idea of Leo and babies. I hadn't put much thought into where I was going with it beyond knowing that he's good with kids, and the thought that there were probably a lot of children orphaned after everything that happened to Mirinoi and Terra Venture. That made me decided I wanted Leo and Kai to become parents, and after much discussion with BlackCrimsonLight to make it work, a fic was born.
From there I started trying to decide what the kids would eventually call their two dads when they grew up. (I have a tendency to plot far into the future with my 'verses. It's a thing.) Somehow that turned into wondering if people even used terms like 'Father' and 'Mother' or 'Mom' and 'Dad' on Mirinoi. And then I wondered what if they just didn't care about gender roles?
When I really think about it, I think my headcanon would be that Mirinoi has a very relaxed definition of gender and sexuality. When you think about canon, Maya was very feminine, and very secure in herself and her body image. (Unless she was being confronted with the culture of the rest of the team, in which case she became more insecure.) While we don't really see much of Mirinoi or it's people - and it's been awhile since I last watched Lost Galaxy, to be honest - I like to think that she's more of the cultural norm in her habits and opinions.
So I guess my ideas of Mirinoi family structure is that it would be very loose, based around one or two adults and the children they share. The children would be the ones to decide the roles they serve, and each child would name their parent as they see fit. (i.e. one may see them as Mother and Father, while the other would have Father and Mother.) Orphaned children become 'tribe children', and are raised by everyone. Generally speaking, Tribe Children don't use 'Mother' and 'Father' terms, because those roles are only defined when a child is adopted.
Do they have multiple parent families? It's likely. Are they common? If I ever decide to write some, sure! Why not?
(Seriously, this is how I decide how alien cultures work. I'm not kidding.)
-Fails at Reasons-
I'm now realizing that I should have asked for clarification on if this was supposed to mean like, Favorite Villain EVER, or Favorite PR Villain. Whoops.
Favorite Generalized Villains? (In no particular order)
I'll admit it: I'm a Lex Luthor fan. Particularly the Smallville version, because he was freaking AWESOME. (And I liked the friendship between Clark and Lex before it died. Sadness. ;_;) As for why I like Lex? He's *smart*. He does, on occasion, have stupid plans or moments of monologue - depending on which version you're watching. But generally speaking, Lex is suave, smart, and classy. It makes him more likeable, and more of a challenge to beat. Which is the point, really, because stupid villains are boring.
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe: The White Witch. (Movie version). Tilda Swinton *owned* that role. She was beautiful and deadly and scary. She made me hurt for Edmund, but also see how he could be drawn in by her. (Something the books never really did beyond him being a selfish little punk. >.O) And the big fight scene, when she's strolling through randomly stabbing and freezing everyone? That was seriously badass.
The Black Organization, from Detective Conan. Those guys are freaking *scary*. o.o You never know where they're coming from, or what they're going to do. They poisoned a kid for the hell of it because he overheard them talking! I'm *still* trying to figure out what they're actually after, because none of their plans make sense. (Or at least Conan/Shinichi can't make any sense of them.) ... And the alcoholic code names are kind of cool. ^.^;;
The Shitennou (Earth Generals/Beryl's Generals)from Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon. Part of the reason I love them is because I read the mangas and I know they were brainwashed to serve evil. Part of it is because they're crafty bastards and they have real personality and some twisted schemes. They're also fiercely loyal, and were generally speaking more interesting to me than a lot of the villains that came later.
Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII! He's hot, and he's fucking CRAZY. Like, seriously. Also he temporarily brainwashes Cloud, which is super-creepy and kind of awesome. He was a major letdown in Advent Children, though. (Seriously, that fight lasted like, all of two minutes. Tops. >.<) I'm really looking forward to getting into Crisis Core, so I can learn more about what he was like before he went batshit crazy. And possibly get a better understanding of why he did, because it was kind of ... vague in VII.
Favorite Power Rangers Villains!
Divatox. Best Villainess ever, and you will not convince me otherwise. She strapped a twelve/thirteen-year-old to a bomb. She was vicious and took no shit. There were, admittedly, a few episodes where they overdid the slapstick humor and her plans were ridiculously stupid, but on the whole, she was nasty. And she *won*. That's the best part. She won when no other villain did. She didn't get the spoils of war, but even so.
Lothor! He was *hilarious*. I have many quotes from things he said that cracked me up. ^.^ Also an incredibly smart villain. Kidnapping/destroying an entire *school*? That's pretty evil. Even if they escaped later, those students still lost a year of their lives that they can never get back. Then there's the fact that he tricked his own minions. Mostly I love him because he's entertaining, but he's also pretty badass evil.
Since I've been re-watching MMPR, Rito Revolto, oddly enough. At this point, my only real argument is that he's more entertaining than I'd remembered him to be. Normally I hate stupid villains, but his one-liners can be funny.
And last but not least, Astronema. Because she is a badass and repeatedly proves it. She's also one of the few villains who actually faced off against the Rangers herself instead of always sending minions. Plus she's hot, which is a bonus. -Eyebrow wiggle-
-Mops brow- And now I am off the hook until the 24th!
