It has come to my attention that I clearly do not understand the rules of writing fests, because I seem to be the only person who has not flailed/spammed/squee'd over my Rare Pair Fest story on my journals.
I HAVE THE CUTEST STORY EVER. IT IS CALLED Stranded AND IT IS AMAZING. JAYDEN AND ANTONIO ARE STRANDED ON A DESERT ISLAND. JAYDEN HAS NO SURVIVAL SKILLS. NONE. ANTONIO HAS TO DO EVERYTHING AND JAYDEN SULKS. ANTONIO KISSES JAYDEN, AND THERE IS FREAKING OUT BECAUSE JAYDEN DID NOT REALIZE HE HAS A BOYFRIEND. THERE ARE AWKWARD CONVERSATIONS ABOUT BEING BOYFRIENDS, AND ANTONIO TEACHING JAYDEN VARIOUS FORMS OF PLATONIC AND ROMANTIC GESTURES, AND IT IS SO FREAKING FLUFFY AND ADORABLE. (Oh, and Jayden tries to think of what his friends would do in this situation, realizes all his friends are emotionally constipated in some way, and gives up. I laughed so hard.)
AND THEN. THEN! -Flails forever-
ANTONIO IS INJURED! AND JAYDEN HAS TO TAKE CARE OF HIM AND ANTONIO IS DYING BUT THEN JAYDEN DOES SOMETHING REALLY STUPID AND SAVES HIM AND IT IS BEAUTIFUL AND THERE IS MORE KISSING AND JAYDEN BEING TEASED BECAUSE HE SUCKS AT FISHING. And then Ji finally figures out something might be wrong and they're rescued.
-Coughs-
So yeah, it is AMAZING and EVERYTHING I could possibly want. Go read it. Now.
I've also determined that the best thing about Rare Pair is seeing everyone squee and flail over each other's stories. Not just the recipients, who are always ecstatic, but everyone else! There's so much fan love everywhere, and it is glorious. ♥
I have discovered that once you ignore all the really stupid parts and think of it like watching a B Grade sci-fi movie, it's amazing. Also, incredibly *dark*. o.O;; There is slavery, genocide, racism, attempted mind rape, actual mind rape, brainwashing, terrorism, loads of potential sex jokes, and a very interesting episode about Dex and his best 'friend'. And even the villains say the word 'friend' weird. And then there's so much slashy subtext and it is BEAUTIFUL. ♥
But the best part (for me, at least), is all the family fluff. There is ALL THE HUGGING. Albie dresses up as Masked Rider for a costume party and clearly looks up to Dex - for being his *brother*, not just because he's a superhero. Molly is constantly helping Dex and covering his butt when he does something stupid and fussing over him. The parents are ridiculously sweet. Even Grandma calls the minions 'thugs' and starts beating them with her purse. EVERYONE IS ADORABLE AND AWESOME. ♥
... And now I'm debating if I want to watch more Masked Rider, or go read Stranded for the sixth (Seventh? I'm losing count.) time.
